My parents gave me lots of terrific pieces of advice. One of my favorites is:
“Your job should not be work.”
I started SloWoJo because I saw so many small online business owners spend too much time on work that takes them away from their passion. Afterall, if your job turns into all work, why do it? If that’s the case, there’s always less stressful ways to make a living. I want to do what I can to help you share your excitement and creativity with others.
But, in today’s world, tech platforms like email lists, social media and websites, while a big piece of your marketing strategy, are what take you away from that. Wouldn’t it be great if all your efforts using them resulted in pointing you easily and clearly in the right direction for growing your business as well?
I want to ease your anxiety, reduce the time you spend trying to get at data that means something and lower your marketing budget along the way so you can use your talents to make the biggest impact.
Wanting to do this cool stuff for others sound great, but why trust me to help you get there? Here’s a snapshot of my experience.
I started out connecting offices to the Internet in the corporate world when most of my friends asked “What’s an Internet?” No, I’m not that old, technology has just progressed really fast.
Following that I spent the core of my career working for a California university’s central IT division. There I climbed the organizational ladder. Starting as an analyst supporting a network with over 60,000 devices I ultimately became the leader of the organization, offering services to over 16,000 students, 4,000 faculty & staff and managing over 100 people. I used my interest in people, curiosity learning new things and the love of solving complex puzzles to really listen to find the real need and help generate the answers that will work for human beings, not machines.
Now with SloWoJo, I’m continuing to those skills to turn your puzzle of tech pieces into something that will work for you. I work with any products that can get you the information you need. The most common are:
Google Analytics,
Google Tag Manager,
Looker Studio,
Google Workspace (gmail, docs, sheets),
WordPress,
Constant Contact,
ConvertKit,
Facebook/Instagram,
Pinterest and
Zapier.
My Happy Place
Besides the fun I have with SloWoJo, my life includes travel, nature photography, ceramics and gardening. Essentially anything where I can get outdoors, away from a screen and get my fingernails dirty.
I like people. There is something to learn from everyone’s story.
I like helping people solve their problems. Happy people make me happy.
I like puzzles. Working the problem is challenging and finding the answer is so satisfying.
I like technology. When used properly, it has the potential to make life better for everyone.
I’m curious. I always want to understand more about my world.
I was lucky to find a world where my interests are core to my profession.
What's with the silly name?
I live on the beautiful central coast of California in San Luis Obispo County. Folks around here shorten this to SLO; the SLO life, SLO Transit. You get the idea. We take pride in being SLO.
So what’s with the WO? I have a wonderful friend, Jane Worthy, who helped me define this path after my university retirement. Without the WO in my life, I wouldn’t be doing this.
And well, the JO is pretty obvious. Yep, that’s me.
